All songs performed and recorded by Annette Williams McCann. All songs were written by Annette Williams McCann with the exception of Loch Lomond, though the arrangement is by Annette.
I would like to thank Peter Moon for being a sounding board for me through the recording process of this album. As a rookie self-producer I was lucky to have such a knowledgable friend just a phone call away. Peter also deserves credit for adding final mastering touches to the single "Unconditional Love." Go listen to his music. You won't regret it.
Over the years, I've had many friends, family, and fans tell me to "go solo." This collection is dedicated to you. My music career has a different life and momentum than it did even five years ago and the chance finally presented itself. I'm grateful for everyone's support, and this EP is an answer to all those requests.
I love singing for you. Writing songs and singing is what I call my soul food. "Loch Lomond" is a traditional Scottish tune I've grown to love, and it is a beautiful love song to a place. Other songs on this album show love for family, for your fellow humans, and a couple for sweethearts.
If you ever have a question about one of my songs, I'd love to hear from you. You can also subscribe to my newsletter for fun insights on my projects.
Until next time, Friends.
Love,
Annette
Lyrics
Unconditional Love
One day I asked my dad,
"I know I didn't quite turn out like those plans you had.
And even now with the life I lead,
why did you never give up on me?"
And he said...
"There's an unconditional love,
the kind your grandpa preached of.
Everybody talks about it, but there ain't enough
of that unconditional love.
You know I've always been proud.
So would your mom if she could see how you turned out.
Now, I know you see things from a different point of view.
But, if you take to heart anything I've taught you, remember...
"There's an unconditional love,
the kind your grandpa preached of.
Everybody talks about it, but there ain't enough
of that unconditional love.
So then I start to think of all that's brought this world to the brink and
how easy life could be if we would all see that...
"There's an unconditional love,
the kind your grandpa preached of.
Everybody talks about it, but there ain't enough
of that unconditional love.
Better Days
Today has been trial upon trial
Of all the things that could go wrong
We got some bad news that 'any day now'
Has finally come along
It's time to batten down the hatches,
Make a choice, or give up and walk away
Walk off this stage without goodbye
Or simply shut up and play
And in the morning when we wake up
It'll be the start of a better day
They say we'll look back and laugh at what life has thrown our way
Only miles between the tragedies and joys will let us truely contemplate
Then the lesson that we learn is every morning is a start of a better day
It all might seem slow moving but I know all we need is a little time
Get our feet back underneath us, find our groove, rhythm and a little rhyme
Before long the road will take us places we thought we'd never go
We’ll think back on what has made us &
Be richer for the paths we’ve been shown
And in the morning when we wake up
It'll be the start of a better day
They say we'll look back and laugh at what life has thrown our way
Only miles between the tragedies and joys will let us truely contemplate
Then the lesson that we learn is every morning is a start of a better day
Daffodils
I dream of you and better times
When worry was far and few
Your strong arms embracing me
As if my heart you'd die to lose
You walked me through your hometown
Spring was in the air
You picked me a daffodil
And placed it in my hair
I may never find the words
to express to you my love
But I'll tell you with each breath I have to give
And still my sweetheart that
Would never be enough
I love you more than there are daffodils in Ireland
My Dear, we are much older now and
grey is in my hair
You smile and pull me closer
saying you don't care
You tell me you'll remember me
until the day I die
As a young woman holding daffodils
about to become your bride
I may never find the words
to express to you my love
But I'll tell you with each breath I have to give
And still my sweetheart that
Would never be enough
I love you more than there are daffodils in Ireland
Melody
For every mile, I've stumbled along alone
For every mountain, I've had to climb
I'd do it all over, barefoot and blind
If it meant I'd still find you right here by my side
I'm so glad the universe didn't grant my wishes
'Cause I could have never imagined something as good as this is
Take my hand and dance with me
Hold me close until you feel my heartbeat
Sway in time to the rest of our lives
You are the words to my melody
For every star, I wished upon
For every love, I hoped would be mine
Those tears that I cried, watered the seeds
of love in my soul for you before I ever knew you could be mine
I'm so glad the universe didn't grant my wishes
'Cause I could have never imagined something as good as this is
Take my hand and dance with me
Hold me close until you feel my heartbeat
Sway in time to the rest of our lives
You are the words to my melody
Loch Lomond
By yon bonnie banks, by yon bonnie braes
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond.
There me and my true love spent many days
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
Ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland before thee.
But me and my true love will never meet again,
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen,
On the steep, steep side of Ben Lomond.
Where in purple hue, the Highland hills we view,
And the moon coming out in the gloaming.
And in the morning when we wake up
It'll be the start of a better day
They say we'll look back and laugh at what life has thrown our way
Only miles between the tragedies and joys will let us truely contemplate
Then the lesson that we learn is every morning is a start of a better day
Ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland before thee.
But me and my true love will never meet again,
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
The wee birdie sang and the wild flowers spring,
And in sunshine the waters are sleeping,
But broken hearts keen nae a second spring
Tho' the waeful may cease frae their greeting
What Love Does
I know you’re feeling tired and worn
The ground is shifting even worse than it did before
Tomorrow starts a better day
Each choice in LOVE brings hope our way
Lean on me, when you think you're not strong enough
I’ll be by your side, I’ll lift you up
Ain’t that what love does
Shines a light to guide us
Walks with us into the unknown
it moves to find us when we think we’re not enough
Reminds us all to have a little hope
Ain’t that what love does
They give us the news with plastic grins
While we learn of those proud of their sins
We know it all won’t be okay
As long as they keep preaching hate
So what can we do? I'll tell you, reach a hand to your brother,
Stand by his side, lift him up
Ain’t that what love does
Shines a light to guide us
Walks with us into the unknown
it moves to find us when we think we’re not enough
Reminds us all to have a little hope
it’s gonna change from what was when we can
show kindness is the light of love
Light of Mine
Mother, hold my worry.
To you it's nothing but to me, it's oh so heavy
Light of Heaven, illuminate my heart
And where it needs to change
There's a river flowing and I don't have to fight
I'll flow
Gently navigating back to where I know
I will shine
This light of mine
Help me plant the seeds to grow what's right in me
Fear, you have no business here
There's something on the wind and hearts are on the mend
RISE! Let it lift us to our feet
There's a river flowing and I don't have to fight
I'll flow
Gently navigating back to where I know
I will shine
This light of mine
I will shine
This light of mine
